Adumbration / Adumbración
The title of the serigraphy series Adumbration (2020-on going) refers to the shadow, shading, and foreshadowing of something as well as to it’s concealment. The prints emerged from the Amplitude Modulation (A.M.) cloud series by inverting the black and white values of the half-tone images and printing with black rather than white ink. Consequently, what in all appearances emerge as black clouds are actually a negative image of white clouds. Upon viewing the illusionary pyrogenic clouds, one is bewildered by how readily they are perceived and how they mysteriously elude the reversed tonality and unrecognizable aspect of negative images.
El título de la serie de serigrafía Adumbración (2020-en curso) hace referencia a la sombra, el sombreado y el presagio de algo, así como a su ocultamiento. Las impresiones surgieron de la serie de nubes de Amplitud Modulada (A.M.) al invertir los valores de blanco y negro de las imágenes de medios tonos e imprimirlas con tinta negra en lugar de blanca. En consecuencia, lo que en apariencia parecen nubes negras, en realidad es una imagen negativa de las nubes blancas. Al ver las ilusorias nubes pirogénicas, uno queda desconcertado por la facilidad con que se perciben y cómo eluden misteriosamente la tonalidad invertida y el aspecto irreconocible de imágenes negativas.
