Abyssalia
This recent series relates the dark inked impressions of a silk mezzotint, with its multitude of blooming biomorphic forms, to the fathomless regions of the ocean abyssal plain and its myriad bioluminescent organisms. The materials used in the alternative printing process awaken the astonishing properties of paint to manifest prodigious shapes. The contingent configurations of pressed acrylic evoke the errant wandering and morphology of plankton life forms. In both cases, our imagination is mobilized by what Roger Caillois considered “the existence of bizarre-privileged items in the universe, which served as objective gaurantors for lyrical emotion and the poetic image at the same time”.
Esta serie reciente relaciona las impresiones de tintas oscuras de una mezzotinta (manera negra) a la seda, y su multitud de formas biomórficas florecientes a las llanuras abisales de los océanos y su miríada de organismos bioluminiscentes. Los materiales utilizados en el proceso de impresión alternativo despiertan las asombrosas propiedades de la pintura para manifiestar formas prodigiosas. Las configuraciones contingentes de acrílico prensado evocan el vagabundeo y morfología de distintas especies de plancton. En ambos casos, nuestra imaginación es movilizada por lo que Roger Caillois consideró "la existencia de elementos extraños-privilegiados en el universo, que sirvieron como garantes imparciales de la emoción lírica y de la imagen poética a la vez".
